Bookkeeping & financial reporting

From daily ledger entries to filed financial statements

Full-scope bookkeeping under the Finnish Accounting Act, ending in statutory financial statements, a prepared audit file and a filing with the Trade Register.

Day-to-day bookkeeping

Purchase and sales ledgers, bank reconciliation, accruals and fixed asset registers, kept current rather than assembled in a rush at year end. You see the position monthly, not in March.

  • Purchase and sales invoice processing
  • Bank and payment reconciliation
  • Fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
  • Accruals, prepayments and period-end cut-off

Statutory financial statements

The Accounting Act requires financial statements to be drawn up within four months of the financial year end. We work back from that date, and from the eight-month Trade Register filing deadline, so nothing is left to the final week.

  • Balance sheet, income statement and notes under Finnish GAAP
  • Board report where one is required
  • Filing with the Finnish Trade Register
  • Comparative figures and restatements handled properly

Audit support and auditor liaison

Where a statutory audit applies, we prepare the audit file, answer the auditor’s queries and manage the timetable. The audit opinion itself comes from an independent authorised auditor (HT/KHT) — under the Auditing Act, the firm that keeps the books cannot also audit them.

  • Audit file assembled to the auditor’s request list
  • Queries answered directly, so your team is not the go-between
  • Adjustments posted and explained
  • Timetable managed against the statutory deadlines
The compliance year

Every statutory deadline, mapped to your financial year

Finnish limited companies work to fixed deadlines set by the Accounting Act, the Auditing Act and the Tax Administration. Set your year end and the calendar below recalculates.

Company profile
  1. Financial year ends

    December

Ledgers closed, accruals and inventory finalised.

  2. Annual accounts prepared

    by April

The Accounting Act requires the financial statements to be drawn up within four months of the end of the financial year.

  3. Statutory audit

    by May

Audit performed by an authorised auditor; we prepare the audit file and act as liaison. Elegian Oy does not perform the statutory audit itself.

  4. Corporate tax return filed

    by April

Due within four months of the end of the month in which the financial period ended.

  5. Financial statements filed with the Trade Register

    by August

Limited companies must file within eight months of the financial year end.

  6. VAT returns

Monthly — due on the 12th of the second following month

12 filings per year on the current period.

Elegian Oy prepares the accounts, the tax return and the audit file, and acts as your liaison with the auditor and the authorities. The statutory audit itself is performed by an independent authorised auditor (HT/KHT) — under the Auditing Act the same firm cannot both keep the books and issue the audit opinion.
